Smith - Brown Student Union
The Smith-Brown Memorial Union is a multi-purpose facility designed to meet the total needs of the Southern University community.
MISSION
The mission is to meet the needs of the Southern University community by fostering individual and collective learning through providing outstanding services and opportunities for involvement. The Smith-Brown Memorial Union strives to provide a student-centered environment that compliments the academic experience of Southern University students through supporting a variety of cultural, educational, social, and recreational programs.
In accomplishing its mission, the Smith-Brown Memorial Union values:
• Community – Fostering a climate that is welcoming to all, and providing a variety of places where students can find a sense of belonging, balance their academic pursuits, and engage in open expression
• Learning – Providing programs, services, and spaces that compliment students’ educational pursuits and support learning outside of the classroom
• Hospitality – Serving our constituents and making them feel welcome and relaxed; going above what is expected to deliver excellent services
• Student Participation – Providing students with employment, and volunteer opportunities
• Adaptability – Responding in a flexible and timely manner to address the needs and interests of current and future students

• Team Development – Providing the tools, resources, and training for our team members to successfully fulfill their roles while fostering an environment that supports collaboration and innovation.
The Smith-Brown Memorial Union provides a variety of services conducive to leisure time activity and relaxation. Through creative programs, the Student Union provides an environment within which student-planned activities operate. The Student Union also provides services, conveniences, and amenities for the members of the university in their daily activities on campus.
The Smith-Brown Memorial Union is home to student service operations. The Student Government Association, Miss Southern University and Court, the Association of Women Students, the Men’s Federation and Class Council offices are all located in the Union along with the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, the Dean of Students, the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement, the Office of Student Conduct, and the Office of Community Outreach and Inclusion. There are also bulletin boards and directions, the Ricoh Copy and Mail Center, the Barber Shop, Conference and Event Services, automatic teller machines (ATM), vending machines, student meeting rooms, and the Food Court which is home to various eateries.
