The Department offers a Bachelors of Science degree (traditional and online). It also offer Master of Science Degree (traditional) and an Executive Masters of Science Degree (Online). The undergraduate program operates as a feeder to the Master of Science in criminal justice.

Degree Requirements
Degree Requirements of the Department
A total of 120 or 121 credit hours are needed to obtain a B.S. degree with 51 hours is the area of criminal justice are required for a B.S. degree: 27 hours of core courses and a minimum of 24 hours of criminal justice electives.
A minor in Criminal Justice is accomplished by completing a total of 21 hours: 15 hours of the core courses including SCJU 101, SCJU 201, SCJU 211, (SCJU 221 or CRJU 247), CRJU 357B and CRJU 469, plus 3 hours of Internship (CRJU 300).
Transfer Credit
Transfer credits are acceptable for degree program if they represent course requirements in the appropriate curriculum.
Up to 24 credit hours of criminal justice courses may be transferred (15 hours of core and 9 hours of criminal justice electives). Please see a CJ (faculty) advisor for more information at 225-771-5732.

To fulfill “Other” University Requirements:
African American Experience can be chosen from a variety of courses. It can be used as a required elective or as a free elective. (Please see department or college advisor).
Writing Proficiency (WP) is satisfied by completing English 102B (at SUBR) with a grade of “C” or better. Please see CJ (faculty) advisor or English Dept. for more information on WP.
Service Learning (SVLR) is satisfied by completing 60 clock hours of community or volunteer service. Students are strongly recommended to take SVLR 400 before their senior year. If a student is exempt from SVLR, the student still must satisfy 3 credit hours with a free elective course (please see CJ department advisor for more information).
NOTE: All CJ core courses and required CJ electives must be taken and completed with a grade of “C” or better.
A variety of CJ elective courses are usually offered each semester. Students should
register for CJ electives based on the electives being offered each semester and pursuant to the curriculum guide.

The Criminal Justice Department offers a Minor consisting of 21 credit hours. Criminal Justice is a multidisciplinary field and therefore offers a marketable combination with other Majors such as Psychology, Political Science, Sociology, Computer Science just to name a few.
