Bachelor of Science in Psychology

The Bachelor of Science in Psychology degree requires a total of 120 credit hours of which 45 semester hours are psychology courses, including 15 hours of psychology electives. The curriculum includes all the University’s general education requirements, and the Nelson Mandela College of Government and Social Sciences requirements.

Degree Requirements

The Bachelor of Science in Psychology degree requires a total of 120 credit hours of which 45 semester hours are psychology courses, including 15 hours of psychology electives. The curriculum includes all the University’s general education requirements, and the Nelson Mandela College of Government and Social Sciences requirements.

Students must earn a minimum grade of “C” in major courses. The required psychology courses are:

Required Classes: SPSY 201B: General Psychology, PSYC 274B: Elementary Statistics, PSYC 277B: Advanced Statistics, PSYC 303B: Field Experience, PSYC 360B: Psychological Testing, PSYC 377B: Physiological Psychology, PSYC 412: Experimental Psychology, PSYC 468B: Abnormal Psychology, PSYC 482: Psychology of Learning and PSYC 488B: History and Systems.

Required Electives: Fifteen (15) credit hours psychology electives.

A minor in psychology requires a minimum of 21 hours of subject matter courses to include
SPSY 201B: General Psychology, PSYC 274B: Elementary Statistics, and PSYC 468B: Abnormal Psychology. The remaining 12 hours required for the minor should be selected in consultation with an advisor in the Department of Psychology and approved by the departmental chair.
