Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Overview

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing curriculum builds on a foundation of the arts, sciences, and humanities. Graduates of the BSN program complete five semesters of study for a total of 120 credit hours required for completion of the program. All students enrolled in the BSN program must meet the University’s core general education courses mandated by the Louisiana Board of Regents to ensure that all students are liberally educated. Cognate courses provide specific science content needed to understand life processes, human responses and health and illness. General education and cognates serve as a foundation for the development of clinical judgment. Students pursuing the BSN degree are required to complete 135 direct clinical hours in each clinical course. Semester credit hours can be pursued through part-time or full-time study. Graduates of SUSON’s BSN program meet eligibility requirements to take the National Council Licensure Examination – RN (NCLEX-RN).
