420. TECHNIQUES OF TEACHING BIOLOGICAL
AND PHYSICAL SCIENCES I
(Credit, 3 hours). CRIN 420 is an undergraduate
course designed to provide teacher candidates
with: 1). pedagogical knowledge; 2). pedagogical
content knowledge and skills needed to effectively
teach students in biological and physical sciences
grades 7-12. All pedagogical strategies will be content
specific. The overall goal of this course is to
provide each candidate with the theoretical and
practical knowledge of how students learn science.
The guiding principles, content, processes and
course structure are profoundly influenced by the
National Science Education Standards, National
Research Council, Project 2061, National Council
of Accreditation for Teacher Education (NCATE),
Louisiana State Standards and Benchmarks, and
PRAXIS. Candidates MUST leave one morning
free for observations /field experiences in the public/
private schools.
