MEEN 343B Mechanical Vibration

343B. MECHANICAL VIBRATION (Credit, 3 hours). The course introduces the fundamental principles of mechanical vibrations with emphasis on modeling, analysis, and interpretation of vibratory behavior in engineering systems. Topics include free and forced vibrations of single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) systems, damping models, harmonic excitation, vibration isolation, transmissibility, and resonance phenomena. Students learn techniques for formulating the equations of motion using Newton’s laws, energy methods, and Lagrange’s equations. Other topics include multi-degree-of-freedom (MDOF) systems, natural frequencies and mode shapes, and modal analysis. Laboratory or project components reinforce theoretical concepts presented in class.
