MEEN 313B Fluid dynamics

313B. FLUID DYNAMICS (Credit, 3 hours). This course provides an in-depth study of the principles governing the motion of fluids, building on foundational fluid mechanics (MEEN 312.) Students examine the mathematical formulation of fluid flow through the conservation of mass, momentum, and energy, leading to the Euler and Navier–Stokes equations. Topics include incompressible and compressible flows, vorticity and circulation, irrotational and potential flows, boundary-layer theory, flow separation, turbulence, and aerodynamic force generation. Analytical, numerical, and experimental approaches are integrated to develop problem-solving skills and physical intuition. Applications include aerodynamics, turbomachinery, and propulsion-related fluid dynamics. Prerequisites: MEEN 312B or equivalent.
