SBIO 103LB General Biology I Lab

SBIO 103LB (Biology Lab-1) (Credit, 1) (Lab., 3 hours). This one-credit course is the first in a two-course laboratory sequence designed to be an introduction to scientific inquiry in the biological sciences for majors in biology and related fields. This lab is meant to reinforce the material covered in the SBIO 103B lecture. The student will apply the tools and techniques necessary to carry out experiments and gain practical laboratory experience. Topics covered in this laboratory include the chemical and structural characteristics of life, the activity of enzymes found within cells, and key metabolic processes such as respiration and photosynthesis. The goal of this course is to provide the basic skills of experimental design and execution for scientific inquiry. This course will help develop a vision of science as an active and creative process that relies on evidence-based critical thinking.
