561.LITERACY AND LANGUAGE DIVERSITY (Credit, 3 hours) This course is designed to enable prospective teacher candidates to understand and address the literacy and language development of linguistically diverse students-those who speak a regional or social varation of English or those whose language is other than English. The candidate is expected to identify the areas of conflict between home language and school expectations as well as build upon the cultural and linguistic strengths of diverse students in reading, writing, and languages arts instruction.
