PHYS 510. MATHEMATICAL PHYSICS I (Credit, 3 hours). Mathematical methods for Physics; review of advanced vector calculus; review of key matrix algebra methods; calculus of residues, conformal mapping, Fourier and Laplace transformations; ordinary differential equations, the Frobenuis series method and Fuchs theorem; complete solutions of key partial differential equations of physics, Poisson, Laplace, Bessel, Legendre, Laguerre, diffusion, and other equations; separation of variables and integral transform methods for some of the preceding solutions; special and orthogonal polynomials; variational and numerical solutions of differential equations
