COEN 420B VLSI Circuit Design

This course introduces the principles of Very-Large-Scale Integration (VLSI) circuit design with emphasis on CMOS technology. Topics include design metrics, design rules, MOS transistor models, capacitances, propagation delay, and noise margins. Students study the design of CMOS inverters, logic gates (NAND, NOR, XOR, pass-transistor), and sequential circuits. Additional topics cover performance trade-offs in speed, power, and area, as well as scaling, dynamic logic, interconnect, power distribution, and memory circuits.
