MEEN 221B Numerical Methods for Engineers

221B. NUMERICAL METHODS FOR ENGINEERS (Credit, 3 hours). This course introduces the fundamental numerical techniques used to model, analyze, and solve engineering problems. Students learn the mathematical foundations and computational implementation of numerical algorithms such as root finding, systems of linear and nonlinear equations, interpolation, curve fitting, numerical differentiation, numerical integration, ordinary differential equations, and optimization methods. Students apply numerical methods to problems in mechanics, thermal sciences, fluid dynamics, and other engineering disciplines using modern computational tools and programming environments (MATLAB, PYTHON, C++). Laboratory exercises and projects reinforce concepts through hands-on implementation and engineering applications. Prerequisite: SMAT 212B.
