231. CHILD PSYCHOLOGY (Credit, 3 hours).
An in-depth examination of child development from conception through late childhood. The course explores major theories and empirical research on prenatal development, birth, infancy, and childhood, with emphasis on physical, perceptual, cognitive, language, social, emotional, and personality development. Students examine the influence of biological, familial, social, cultural, and environmental factors on development, including individual differences and atypical developmental pathways. Emphasis is placed on integrating developmental theory and research to understand the complex processes that shape children's growth and behavior across diverse contexts.
