277. ADVANCED STATISTICS (Credit, 3 hours).
An introduction to inferential statistics and statistical reasoning as applied to psychological and behavioral science research. The course emphasizes the analysis, interpretation, and communication of research findings using statistical software, including the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) or equivalent statistical applications. Topics include probability, sampling distributions, hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, correlation, simple linear regression, statistical inference, parametric and nonparametric procedures, t-tests, analysis of variance (ANOVA), and introductory chi-square analyses. Emphasis is placed on selecting appropriate statistical procedures, interpreting statistical output, and evaluating research findings in the behavioral and social sciences. Prerequisite: PSYC 274 with a minimum grade of C.
